June 12 (Sunday) Field Trip- BRYNNOR MINE
June 12, 2022
Brynnor is an iron mine near Kennedy Lake. We will get bluish/grey limestone, chlorite, serpentine, magnetite & smatterings of arsenopyrite, garnet, malachite or diopside, marble, sparkle limestone & green chert.
For those who want to carpool we will gather at the S.E. corner of Wembley Mall at 7:40. We will leave at 8:00 to get to the Gathering Place/Toquart Bay Rd at Kennedy Lake. There is awesome highway construction at Kennedy Lake with single lane let-through from this end on the hour depending on the traffic volume. You should allow 2 hours from Parksville. Sunday morning traffic heading to Ucluelet/Tofino should be light at this time unless it isn’t. Plan on being at the Gathering Place at 10:00 – 10:30. If you arrive at the Gathering Place & no one is there proceed down Toquart Bay Rd. We will be parked on the road.
See attachments for Toquart Bay Rd Gathering Place & the mine site. Gathering Place is about 1km from the bottom of the construction. The mine is about 3 – 4 km from Hwy 4.
If the forecast is not good contact Jim Jeffs at 250 586 5883 or hamish26@outlook.com by 7:00 for possible cancellation.
If any one needs a pick up in Parksville I will take 2.
Questions, comments to Jim Jeffs as above.
